Creating Meta Tags – Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Before I tell you how to create Meta tags, I would like to explain about their importance. Meta tags are a core part of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) of your Website, Article or Blog. Search engines come to know about the content of your website through these Meta tags of your Website, Article or Blog. Not only search engines, but also other internet users. The most common used tags are usually for the keywords and description.

You may ask, what is a Meta tag? It is the main niche of your website. Before you create your website, you need to ask yourself what kind of business or work you would like to do and then proceed accordingly. In online business it is very important to get exposure and popularity then only you will get more profits from your website.

Meta tags refer to the codes which are used while creating the source code of your website. It can also be considered as a summary of the content of your web page. Meta Tags are of three types namely Meta title, Meta description and Meta keywords.

The Meta tag usually consists of keywords. If you are dealing with car products, then your keywords in the Meta tag will have to be something related to car products. It shows up at the top of your browser when internet visitors see your site. This tag should contain your main keyword to give a hint of the content of the webpage.

These tags should be concise so that the search engines crawl your content of the web page. Meta tags appear in the main title of your content and also in the description of your content. Search engines like Google are not using keywords tags for indexing web pages. You will have to add description tags to your article or blog. I would consider this as the most important thing to create when designing a website.

Like I mentioned earlier this is the first thing search engines and other visitors will see. If you don’t have the right keyword, I’m afraid that you’re online business won’t do well.

Meta title can contain one or two keywords which should try and get you the target audience. Make sure not to use excessive keywords in the Meta title as it can be considered as spamming and search engines ban or block your website. There are many people who are just simply using too many keywords in their Meta title and search engines have decided to do away with them.

Meta description is usually about 250 – 300 characters and appears under your page title in the search engines. You need to spend some time on this description as this is the text that will bring your potential customers. Most websites usually prefer 250 characters. It is a description of what your website does. So make sure you have put your keywords in the description.

Meta keywords are a list keywords relevant to your websites with are separated by commas. This is pretty self explanatory but should contain 5-8 keywords or keyword phrases that accurately depict the content on that particular page.

For effective search engine marketing, you must concentrate on creating well planned Meta tags as they have great potential in boosting your webpage ranking on search engines. Good luck.
